Rank Group have dropped their £250m bid for Gala Coral's Casino business. If the bid was successful Rank Group would have been the largest casino operator by number of venues in the UK. The deal broke down as they couldn't agree on terms with Ian Burke, Rank chairman and chief executive said the proposed deal did not deliver adequate value for the shareholders.

Gala stated that the group was not for sale when Rank approached it with an offer, and it is clear that terms acceptable to its shareholders cannot be reached. They will continue to drive growth for their casinos. Gala operates the third largest casino network in the UK with a 17% share of the market.

If Ranks bid had been successful they would have seen their casino portfolio grow to 61 sites in total. Rank is trying to broaden the appeal of their casinos to the under 35-s and more women.

888 Holdings are in talks with Donald Trump in an attempt to exploit the looming legislation of online gambling in America.
